April 23 Querbes Tennis Center Update

An agreement with the City of Shreveport has been signed, sealed, and delivered to completely renovate the Querbes Park Tennis Center!  The facility will be closed for the remainder of this year with a scheduled reopen date of January 2020, weather permitting.

During this past year the Querbes Park Foundation (QPF) and a group from the CTA met with SPAR on a monthly basis to come up with a plan to renovate QTC.  It was agreed to make the clubhouse ADA compliant by adding new bigger bathrooms, paint, flooring, an outside elevator, etc., saving where possible to be able to use the remaining funds for the tennis courts that were in complete disrepair.  The City bid the renovation of the entire facility and the bids came in at slightly over $1,000,000.  However, the remaining funds from the ADA Bond would only cover the soft courts.  The city was $500,000 short of getting this done.  The Querbes Park Foundation offered to put up $250,000 if the city would match that offer with another $250,000 and get the entire facility done at once as it should be.  This budget amendment was passed at the City Council by a vote of 6-1 on December 11, 2018.

Through a very generous grant from the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Southern USTA, LTA, and funds raised to date from QPF, NWLACTA, Caddo Parish and many private donors, we have approximately $150,000 raised and in commitments to date!

A fundraiser has been set by The Querbes Park Foundation and the NWLACTA.  It will be a dinner fundraiser at the Petroleum Club on Tuesday May 7th.  Happy Hour: 5:30-6:15 and dinner following.  Special Guests will be in attendance.  A night to have some fun and talk about the long history of Tennis at Querbes Park in Shreveport.  Tickets will be $100 each or tables of 8 for $700.  This will be a “fun” one so whether you play tennis or not, you will want to attend.

An invitation has been sent through the CTA Constant Contact and is on CTA Facebook page (northwest louisiana community tennis association).  You can also go to www.nwlacta.com website and click the registration button.  Here is the direct jot form link as well:  https://www.jotform.com/build/90847304877165 .

The addition of the renovated tennis center will certainly compliment the already renovated golf facility and all together the newly renovated park is certainly a “game changer” for the park itself, the neighborhood and surrounding areas, and the city.

Many of you have already responded, THANK YOU!!  I am asking each of you not only for your support in the fundraising efforts of QTC but to also reach out to your friends and business associates for support to ensure the completion of this important project.

If you have any questions, ideas, or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me.  On behalf of the NWLACTA Board and Committee, and QPF, let me thank you in advance and let you know how much we appreciate your dedication, support, and hard work to ensure the Querbes Park and Tennis Center becomes a reality!
